God is in the Details of Our Lives

So I have a problem. I didn’t realize it was a problem until recently. I’m not even 100% sure when I realized I had this issue but now that I know it, I know I have to change it!

I don’t usually have faith that God answers prayers NOW. I pray to Heavenly Father often about the things of my heart. I expect answers to come eventually but I never expect them to come NOW. I often hear that we can’t always expect God to answer our prayers ASAP. That we have to be patient.  I don’t seem to have that problem, ha! I pretty much plan for that. Whenever I pray for an answer my next thought is “He is probably going to make me wait forever for that answer.” I continue worrying about it and wishfully hoping that eventually he will grant me an answer if I am lucky.

Sometimes God makes us wait for the answer. Maybe the right person hasn’t come into our life yet or we haven’t quite learned the lesson he is trying to teach us but sometimes he is ready to answer us and we are right where we need to be to receive it. Instead of expecting God to answer me next week, next month or next year, I am going to give him a chance to answer me NOW.

3 Nephi 14

7 Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

8 For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, who, if his son ask bread, will give him a stone?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Do you see what I am doing here? I am expecting the Creator of the Earth, The Giver of all Gifts and the Father of my Spirit to give me a stone instead of bread. I am expecting the worst. I am expecting to always wait. I don’t act like he can answer me when I need it. I think he will answer me when it’s too late.

After working through my thoughts, and reading some awesome talks from Apostles and Prophets, I am realizing that God wants to be in the details of our lives. He wants us to know that he is always there. He wants to answer our prayers and he can answer them daily. Sometimes the answer might be “to wait” but that is still an answer!

A few ways that have helped me get answers from God:

  1. Praying for an answer from a specific question before starting my scripture study
  2. Planning my studies for the whole week on Sunday. It helps me to be able to mentally prepare for what I will be reading that night
  3. Fasting for two consecutive meals. Always starting with a prayer
  4. Saying morning and night time prayers and giving adequate time for God to answer me while on my knees
  5. Being obedient to Gods commandments. I really believe in obedience (obviously not perfect) and know that the more obedient I am, the closer I feel to God

I am still working on having a daily connection with God but I know that he is always there even if I don’t recognize it.

My hope is that if you are having trouble knowing God is there, that he is listening, or that he cares that you will be able to be brave enough to show God that you want to feel him in your life everyday.

He loves you!! He knows you!!! He cares!!

I am learning that more and more every day.
